Dear friend of KHCS,
Thanksgiving is over and the Holiday Season has begun.
But, the Word of God tells us that we
need to be thankful every day, not just one day each year. Rejoicing with
turkey and football is nice, but I pray that you will carry an “attitude
of gratitude” throughout the year.
I hope also that you are thankful for
the 24/7 ministry of Joy 92-FM.
We have had our challenges this past
year, not the least being forced to move our studio. Now, moving a radio
station is a lot more involved than just packing up some desks and filing
cabinets. To avoid being off the air for some months during this
transition, it was necessary to construct a studio at the new location and
make sure everything was running properly before we could power down the
old facility and move that equipment.
We had some brand-new equipment that
didn’t work right out of the box, and others that failed shortly
thereafter. This put us behind schedule. Actually, some wiring is still
being done at our new studios. This mostly consists of tidying up
temporary wiring that was made to expedite our transition.
What was particularly difficult was
trying to fit this project into our budget. While many listeners gave
sacrificially, the amount contributed over and above our day-to-day
operating budget was far less than the cost of our move.
As we approach the end of the year we
have a substantial shortfall. Please pray about the part you might have
in getting us caught up. Your generous financial contributions will help
us improve our ministry to you.
There are various projects that we would
like to complete in 2005 as finances provide. One of these includes a
relay transmitter (translator) to rebroadcast our programming into the
Yucca Valley area. Residents of the Morongo Basin have asked us to
provide this service to their area. We estimate the initial cost to
provide this service to be $10- $20,000. After that, there would be
maintenance and site rental costs of up to $1000 monthly.
Another dream that I have is a
translator for the I-10 area between Indio and Blythe. Do you know that
there is a stretch of highway where you can put your radio on “scan” and
it won’t stop for 15 minutes? A translator there would have a “captive
audience” of hundreds of listeners each day that make the journey between
the Coachella Valley and the Arizona border. Who knows, they could be
people who desperately need to hear the Good News of Jesus!
Is that a project you could help
We also would like to bring “Joy
to the World” by streaming our programming live on the
internet, so that listeners around the world can be blessed by Joy
92-FM. This could cost up to $1000 per month for licensing and
other fees. Would you pray about helping with this project?
Don’t forget that all contributions to
KHCS are income tax deductible, and a special year-end gift may
provide you with a substantial tax refund. This is especially true for
appreciated assets, and I suggest that you contact your tax advisor for
You can give thanks for Joy 92
by inviting others to tune us in at 91.7 FM; by continuing to pray
for our outreach; and of course through your faithful financial support.
I thank you for your involvement, and wish you a Merry Christmas!
P.S. You should be hearing some of the music of Christmas on KHCS by
the time you receive this ─ and we will increase the amount to 100
percent by December 15. It’s a great time of year to invite others to
tune in for music that honors the birth of our Lord!
