February 2005
Dear friend of KHCS,
The world’s attention has focused on the
tsunami that swept through the Indian Ocean just a few weeks ago. While
most of the damage and fatalities have occurred in Thailand, Indonesia and
Sri Lanka (Ceylon), the waves even caused loss of life in east Africa,
thousands of miles away!
The worldwide outpouring of support for
the stricken people in the affected area has been truly remarkable.
Aside from the governments of the United
States, Australia, Japan and a few others, help has come from Christian
organizations such as World Vision, Compassion International, Mercy
Airlift and many others.
One notable exception has been from
several Muslim clerics who declared that this was a punishment sent from
Allah.
Meanwhile, the United Nations, in its
infinite wisdom, sent a shipment of condoms! You can’t eat them, so go
figure!
But some Christians have pointed to this
major earthquake ─
now updated to 9.2 on the Richter Scale
─ as a sign that
the Lord’s return is near.
I hate to disappoint anybody, but Jesus
specifically stated that earthquakes would not be a sign of the end
times. See Matthew 24:6 - 8.
So, what is the sign that the
Lord’s coming is near? Persecution! (Matt. 24:9) Yes, it’s true that
Christians have been persecuted for almost 2000 years. But, there have
been enclaves around the world, like America, that have seen little or no
persecution of Christians. Until recently.
You may have heard of the Christians
arrested in Philadelphia for attempting to evangelize at the homosexual “OutFest.”
They face felony charges for “ethnic intimidation” (i.e. saying
homosexuality is a sin), “possessing instruments of crime” (an amplified
bullhorn) and “riot” (reading scripture). They could face up to 47
years in prison for these “crimes.”
And you may be aware of the increasing
pressure put upon Christians to “celebrate Christmas in the privacy of
their own homes.”
But, the first thing Jesus said in this
passage was, “Watch out that no one deceives you.” (Matt. 24:4, NIV)
And that is why all believers in Christ
must remain grounded in scripture and keep in close fellowship with our
Lord.
I hope that the listener-supported
ministry of Joy 92-FM helps you in your walk with Christ.
The teaching programs you hear on KHCS are chosen to instruct you
in how to put your Christianity into practical action. Our information
programs are intended to let you know of events and issues that affect
your life so that you may pray, and take appropriate action when
necessary.
No specific church or denomination
provides the financial resources for KHCS to remain on the air. We
are supported primarily by the freewill, tax-deductible contributions of
grateful listeners.
I hope that you are also grateful for
the ministry of Joy 92-FM, and will contribute as you are
able during 2005. Your generous support enables us to keep on bringing
you Information and Inspiration, 24 hours a day. And please invite others
to listen, too. This is always a practical way to help this ministry.
In His
joy!
