June 2003
Dear friend of KHCS,
Thanks to those of you who participated in our recent
Program Survey! We received 125 surveys, and are pleased to report that
our most popular program is still Focus on the Family with Dr.
James Dobson (with 77 percent of the responses). Close behind is
Insight for Living with Chuck Swindoll and Money Matters with
financial counselor Larry Burkett, tied for second place.
I would also like to thank those of you who have
taken the time to invite others to tune to KHCS at 91.7 FM. Last
year, 19 percent of our survey respondents reported that they heard about
KHCS from a friend or relative. This year, this figure is up to 22
percent!
Twenty-five percent of our respondents mentioned
that they listen exclusively to KHCS. Among other stations
listened to, the most popular is news-talk KPSI. The most listened-to
secular music station is KJJZ.
Most of our listeners still think that our balance
of music to programs is OK
─ 65% this year,
64% in 2002.
An interesting change in this year’s survey
─ more men
responded this year, up to 28% as contrasted with 17% in 2002. More women
than men tend to listen to our programs, but men tend to prefer our music
and other music stations.
Actually, while it is fun to know the top three
programs, from our perspective it is more important to know the bottom
three (excepting those between midnight and 3 a.m.). If these programs do
not have a significant number of people listening to them, we will try to
find programs that will be more interesting to you.
We have found that Breakpoint This Week,
with Charles Colson, is fairly well listened to in its 3:00 p.m. Saturday
release, but few people listen to it at 10:00 a.m. on Sundays. So, we are
looking for a replacement for this program that will be more appropriate
for that time slot. This change will probably be made later this year.
Breakpoint This Week will remain on Saturday, however.
Starting this month, you can keep up to date with
legal and legislative issues that affect your witness and way of life by
listening to The Legal Alert from the Christian Law Association at
8:28 a.m. and 6:30 p.m.
Also, in our continuing effort to refine our
programming lineup, you can now hear the thoughts of well-known author and
musician John Fischer with Consider This every weekday morning at
4:30 a.m. and evening at 10:30 p.m.
The relevant, practical programs and inspirational
music you hear on KHCS are made possible because listeners like you
choose to provide the financial support that makes this ministry
possible.
Yes, we have a few businesses that provide some
contributions. But, there are far more listeners than businesses in the
Coachella Valley, and we cannot depend solely on business support. We
provide announcements for our business supporters to acknowledge their
contribution, but we are prohibited by law from selling air time
for commercials, e.g. to promote their latest sale or how much better they
are than their competitors.
That’s why your tax-deductible contributions are
vital for KHCS to continue bringing you Information and
Inspiration, 24 hours a day. Approximately one out of every three people
who receive this letter contribute to help us keep on bringing
encouragement to the people of the Coachella Valley and surrounding areas.
If you are not now a Ministry Partner, will you
pray about doing your part? We don’t ask for a pledge, only a decision.
A decision that you will join with the others who are providing the
financial contributions that make this unique ministry possible.
Thank you for praying, and for inviting your
friends to tune to 91.7 FM.
In His joy!
