March 2005
Dear friend of KHCS,
Last month I wrote you about the
persecution of Christians around the world. In Indonesia, Muslim mobs
burn Christian villages to the ground and murder any Christians who cannot
escape into the jungle.
In the Sudan, Christian areas are bombed
by government planes; millions have died and many more forced into
slavery.
This violence has reached our shores
with the brutal murder of a Coptic Christian family in New Jersey, whose
bodies were found bound, gagged and stabbed to death. The father, Hossam
Armanious, 47, had boldly proclaimed his faith on Internet
chat rooms and invited Muslims to give their lives to Christ.
Meanwhile, Jeremy Reynalds, a freelance
writer and founder of Joy Junction, a homeless shelter in Albuquerque, NM,
has been targeted for assassination by Islamists because he successfully
got an Islamic jihadist website closed down.
Closer to home, and thankfully not as
violent, are the attitudes expressed by some in the local homosexual
community. You may have heard about the controversial e-mail sent out a
few months ago by the activist group called the Desert Stonewall
Democrats. Somehow I received a copy of that e-mail. While most local
media concentrated on the last few paragraphs that called state
assemblywoman Bonnie Garcia a “whore,” the first part was primarily a
hate-filled screed against the “religious right,” calling us “evangelical
lunatics.”
Not content with that, it called us
“whiny weasly bastards,” and said: “Do something for our community . . .
vote . . . fight . . .and kick the bastards until they are down . . . and
then kick them again!” Somehow the leader of the Desert Stonewall
Democrats, George Zander, declared this part of the e-mail to be OK. He
also has called Christians part of an “evil political movement.”
I do hope that this group is not
promoting actual violence against Christians, though it does reveal their
anger.
As Christians, we are not to respond in
kind. All people deserve to receive the love of Christ. But, we should
not allow this kind of verbal terrorism to cow us into submission. We
cannot just shut up and turn away from the teachings of Scripture. (See
2 Timothy 2:25)
And I hope that the teaching and
encouragement that you receive daily through our programs and music on
Joy 92-FM help you to stand against this sort of anti-Christian
bigotry. We are here 24 hours a day to encourage you in the ways of the
Lord.
I do have to share with you that while
listener contributions so far this year are a bit higher than in 2004, we
still have just enough to cover regular operating expenses. I have been
asked, when is KHCS going to get the repeater (translator) in Yucca
Valley? The answer is simply: when the funds are available.
Also this year we need to replace
several items of obsolete broadcast equipment. Parts for these are now
unavailable, and, if this equipment breaks down, you could be without the
ministry of Joy 92 for an indefinite period.
I hope you will become a Ministry
Partner with KHCS if you have not done so already. Please
remember, all of your contributions are tax deductible and immediately go
into the service of bringing the Word of God to the Coachella Valley and
beyond.
Thank you so very much!
In His
joy!
