March 2007
Dear Friend of KHCS,
As spring approaches we begin to
appreciate the beautiful desert area we are blessed to live in and the
tremendous growth that has come about. I was thinking about the verse
in the book of Daniel which talks about the last days.
But you, Daniel, shut up the words,
and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and
fro, and knowledge shall be increased. Daniel 12:4
We have all thought that 100 years ago
no one would have dreamed
they could fly across the country in a
747 in a matter of a few hours or have a cell phone or a microwave
oven. The list goes on. Here are a few things you might want to
consider in light of what the angel of the Lord told Daniel.
We are living in exponential times.
There are about 540,000 words in the English language, about 5 times as
many as during Shakespeare’s time.
It is estimated that a week’s worth of
New York Times contains more information than a person was likely to
come across in a lifetime in the 18th Century.
More than 3000 new books are published
in the world daily.
According to former Secretary of
Education Richard Riley, the top 10 jobs that will be in demand in 2010
didn’t exist in 2004. We are currently preparing students for jobs that
don’t yet exist, using technologies that haven’t yet been invented, in
order to solve problems we don’t even know are problems yet.
Students starting a four-year
technical or college degree will have half of what they learn in their
first year of study be outdated by their third year of study.
It is estimated that 1.5 exabytes
(that’s 1.5 times 10 to the 18th power) of unique new information will
be generated worldwide this year. That’s estimated to be more than in
the previous 5000 years.
Nintendo invested more than $140
million in research and development in 2002 alone. There are over 106
million registered users of MySpace as of September 2006. There are 2.7
billion searches performed on Google each month.
The amount of technical information is
doubling every 2 years. 47 million laptop computers were shipped in
2006. Predictions are that by 2013 a supercomputer will be built that
will exceeds the computation capability of the human brain. The list
goes on.
Who would have believed that God’s
word would come to pass in such an overwhelming way. Here at Joy 92 FM
our mission is to glorify our Lord by presenting the clear message of
the Gospel and edifying the Christian community. This is why we use the
term Information and Inspiration 24 hours a day.
We now have the radio version of the
Desert Christian News TV program on Wednesday afternoons at 5:30 PM.
You will find this to be an informative program bringing you news and
interviews of things of interest in the Christian community going on in
the Coachella Valley.
If you find KHCS to be a blessing to
you and you have not been a supporter recently, I would encourage you to
pray about becoming a regular monthly supporter of this ministry. As of
the 23rd of February, we have only received 76 contributions totaling
less that $4,500.00. This makes it very difficult to operate and pay
all of the bills. KHCS is a non-profit ministry that is only for the
Coachella Valley and we cannot operate if God’s people do not support
it. Please pray about becoming a ministry partner. Thank you.
In His joy,

Dan Pike
President
